Performing Arts

It’s always so hard to start these things…where to begin?

For the last 5 years I have had the great pleasure of teaching at Renaissance Elementary both as an Educational Assistant and then as the Performing Arts teacher for K-6th grade.  I have learned a LOT about education and the things that motivate our children and have continually strived to create units of study that challenge and excite the young minds I work with.  My focus is always to explore the creative process and how we use our “voice” in the arts to affect change in the world.  Some of those experiences have included slam poetry at the local coffee house, documentary filmmaking, exploring folk, blues, and rock music through guitar and ukulele, improv comedy shows, and developing a musical theater program that is unrivaled by local elementary schools.

I am currently working on my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and will eventually pursue a Principal’s Licensure.  AND I am also under contract for a house in Palmer Lake and am looking forward to making it the home my family has always wanted.  It took me many years to settle into the fact that I love being busy…I thrive on moving and shaking.  I am continually in pursuit of more knowledge about the world around and always looking for the next thing that will fill my bucket.  Some of my most treasured stops along my journey have included being a mother and wife, a bulldog lover, a yoga teacher, a Jazz singer/band leader, a wedding DJ, an actress, a wine sommelier…so many adventures already in this lifetime!  And each has given me exactly what I needed at that moment in time.

I am thrilled to be a part of the Renaissance Secondary School’s maiden voyage!  I promise to continually strive to be mindful and present, honest, and hard-working.  And I promise to make decisions for my program based always on what is best for kids. I can’t wait to dive in and learn/discover right alongside your children.  It is sure to be a challenging, creative, risky, and beautiful experience!
