Ben Whitehead

8th Grade Math

Hey y'all! My name is Ben Whitehead and I'm joining the Renaissance Crew for the 2019-2020 school year as the eighth grade math teacher. I'm extremely excited to get started at Renaissance and look forward to meeting all of you!

I was born and raised in Blythewood, SC, just outside of Columbia. I attended a Division II school, Erskine College (Due West, SC), on a baseball scholarship. Due to an elbow injury, I shutdown my baseball playing career and finished out college at Clemson University. Upon graduating in 2008, I moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to a beautiful lady, Kelly, I met during an internship my senior year. Turns out, I got lucky because she married me six years ago! For the better part of the past decade, we've lived in Oklahoma, although we spent about a year-and-a-half in Albany, NY. I've held jobs in several different fields including telecommunications, sales, and sports, prior to becoming a teacher three years ago where I feel I really found my calling. I believe this background has helped me see where various aspects of academics plays a role in different industries and allows me to show real-world application in the classroom.

In August 2017, our first child was born. Xander is the pride and joy of our lives. We are excited to explore this beautiful state, be in touch with nature, and grow in this community.

A few quick insights about me:

-I love all sports and am usually keeping up with whatever is in season.

-My favorite teams are everything Clemson and the Boston Red Sox.

-I began running about five years ago and have become an avid ambassador for the sport. I hope to start up a Cross Country/Track & Field team at Renaissance in the near future!

-Some of my other favorite things are my adorable family, coffee, ice cream, being outdoors, collecting ice cream helmets from every baseball stadium I visit, dogs, and simply a passion for living life to the fullest!

Again, I'm really excited to meet you and your kiddos this year! Whatever "it" is, Renaissance has it. And I'm glad to be a part of it!
