VISUAL ARTS

Arts at Renaissance Secondary School

The arts are an essential part of life at Renaissance, giving students opportunities to express themselves, collaborate with peers, and engage creatively across disciplines. Arts are integrated throughout our curriculum and also available as elective pathways through X-Blocks and performance opportunities.

Theater

Renaissance’s theater program empowers students to explore acting, stagecraft, design, and performance. Students collaborate in productions, build confidence, and bring stories to life on stage.
Highlights:

  • Annual play and musical productions for both Middle School and High School

  • Student involvement in acting, directing, set design, and technical theater

  • International Thespian Society – Troupe 8694 honors available for qualifying students

  • Participation in Thescon - Theater Conference

Music

Renaissance's music program includes band, choir, and ensemble opportunities that strengthen musical skills and encourage performance excellence. Students explore theory, composition, and collaboration.
Highlights:

  • Multiple Bands for students at all experience levels - Beginning Band for students with no experience or who wish to learn a new instrument. Concert Band for students who have been playing for 6 months-2 years. Symphonic Band for students with 2 or more years of band experience. 

  • Choir - Middle School Choir, grades 6-8 and High School Choir, grades 9-12

  • Music Ensembles - jazz band, guitar class, and Japanese Music Ensemble 

  • Concerts and community performances

  • Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter recognizing musical achievement 

 

 Visual Arts

Renaissance’s visual arts program invites students to develop their artistic voice through a variety of media, including drawing, design, and digital arts. Studio work emphasizes creativity, technique, and expression.

Highlights:

Students showcase their creativity through rotating on-campus art installations, community art projects, and our annual Empty Bowls event, along with other exhibitions and experiences throughout the year.

Arts Integration & Electives

The arts are woven into many academic projects as a means of creative problem-solving and expression. In addition to core arts programming, elective arts courses are available through our X-Blocks offerings.

Arts Honors & Recognition

Renaissance Secondary offers honors societies and recognition programs for students who excel in the arts:

  • National Art Honor Society (Visual Arts)

  • Tri-M Music Honor Society (Music)

  • International Thespian Society (Theater)
    Students who meet eligibility criteria can earn honors and participate in conventions like Colorado Thespian Convention (ThesCon)
