8th Grade Humanities
Hello! My name is Melissa England and I am overjoyed to be a part of the Renaissance Secondary School crew. As a teacher, I believe in developing strong connections with each student and creating a bond of trust and respect that goes both ways. We are partners in learning and will grow together through our experiences. I will bring my best each day to the crew and am thrilled to be a part of this journey!
I grew up in Littleton, Colorado and was a competitive figure skater in my youth. I trained six days a week and my middle school allowed me to leave school early to train. This experience gives me a great appreciation for our X-Block policy and how it provides students the opportunity to pursue their passions. I left Colorado to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism where I received my Bachelor of Journalism degree with a minor in art history and archaeology. As a college student I taught ice skating lessons and through coaching discovered my passion for working with young people. After college I moved to Chicago, but the mountains called me home and when I returned to Colorado I began my career in schools. During this time I also began working on my master’s degree in humanities at the University of Colorado-Denver. Most recently I have had the incredible opportunity to work at Renaissance Elementary as an Instructional Assistant prior to joining Renaissance Secondary in 2017. Every day has been a powerful example of the strength of crew and I am so proud to be able to bring my Renaissance Elementary experiences to our new school!
My husband Brian and I have two children and we have lived in Castle Rock for 11 years. My daughter Sofia will attends Renaissance Secondary and my son Brooker attends Renaissance Elementary. We also have a wonderful dog named Sadie. As a family we enjoy skiing, hiking and “Friday Movie Night,” complete with pizza and ice cream.
